England is the country where the credit card is most used
England has an extremely vibrant payments market.
Credit and debit cards account for 90% of the online shopping market. It is the preferred payment method for Brits, with very high adoption rates. For example, Brits own an average of 2-3 Visa or MasterCard credit cards each. In addition, mobile payment solutions such as ApplePay or GooglePay are ubiquitous and popular, and their usage rates continue to rise. Other alternative payment solutions, such as digital wallets and contactless payment solutions, are also growing.
What payment methods do the English prefer?
• Credit or Debit Card: Major credit and debit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
- Mobile Money: Mobile payment apps such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are becoming increasingly popular in the UK. PayM, the equivalent solution to Lydia, will close in March 2023, but other solutions such as MoneyGram and WorldRemit will play a similar role.
• PayPal: PayPal remains one of the main online payment methods, and is accepted by many UK shops and websites.

• Bank Transfer: Bank transfers are a popular and safe way to send money in England.
• Initiating a Bank Transfer (AiS/Pis): Open Banking in the UK is now regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Only firms authorised by the FCA can use Open Banking APIs to access financial information or initiate payments on behalf of a customer. UK banks' APIs have a remarkable 99.13% availability rate and 99.22% of requests are fulfilled!

• Cryptocurrencies: Cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin are also successful in the UK. They can be used to make payments online and in some shops.
